The heart of Balmoral, Pauline's is still going strong after decades of service! Their corner front restaurant is as unique as ever with their accoutrement decorum covering the walls and leading out into their new patio seating. As entertaining as the visuals are, their high quality meals continue to get bigger and better than ever! I gorged on an omelette the size of my face stuffed with fresh vegetables and goat cheese, chasing it back with the freshest of squeezed orange juice. Can't wait to go back for another dish! Enjoy!
The Best Breakfast place in the city! The staff is always nice, and accommodating. I did have a waitress that kept taking my food to another table but it became quite hilarious after a while. Overall, great establishment and the cheese sandwich with soup is my favorite!! Oh! Oh! The orange Juice is super delicious.
I LOVED THIS DINER SO MUCH! Im from cnada and we came down to visit, by far the best french toast i have ever had. I came here about 1.5 ago, but im h af right now. That day they were serving a cinammon bun french toast, i just cant describe how good it was. Under the glass of the table you can leave a little note or photo or news article clipping. Very cute seeing the past patrons.
With the loss of JoAnne's Diner on Sunnyside/Ravenswood & the Heartland Cafe, there aren't many old, authentic places for breakfast with great kitschy atmosphere left on Chicago's north side. So I am praying that Pauline's on Balmoral never changes or (gasp!) closes. Very good food, generous portions, friendly & prompt service, fun atmosphere...what's not to love. Thank you Pauline's and see you soon!
I would describe Pauline's as a 'greasy spoon, home cooked diner that all diners are aspiring to be'. It was not greasy, and some good home cooking. It is a great place to go if you are looking for some kind of combination of breakfast/soup/sandwich. The menu is extensive and the staff was super friendly. Highly recommend cozy, neighborhood diner. Check it out.
